Vocational Training for PWDs: Training School in Yangon offers 6 Courses

Social Welfare Department under the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement opened a vocational training school in Yangon for the disabled. This School offers electronic, sewing, computer, logo making, hair dressing and photography courses.

It’s designed to provide jobs for the people with disabilities (PWDs) in various regions and states.

Headmistress, Vocational Training School for the Disabled, Khin Khin Soe said “The school opened on 16th May and we made the school opening announcement via the state-owned newspapers, on social media and the department of social welfare in various regions and states. We also arranged accommodation for trainees.”

The trainees said that they will apply what they’ve learnt from this training after completing the courses.

Trainer, Vocational Training School for the Disabled, Than Than Soe said “Regarding our courses, we teach the subjects in two different ways for girls and boys. The method for sewing course is taught in Japanese cm method. For this course, the government pays for the all costs such as clothes and yarn used during the training.”

Trainee from Kayah State, Cho Cho Win said “I heard about this training from the former trainees and I came to this school. After the training, I will open my own shop and will re-educate people who cannot attend the courses.”

Trainee from Yangon Region, Nine Nine One said “I came here after completingmy Garde-11 education because I am interested in electronics. I will learn how to repair the electronic items, mobiles, TV and all electronic devices. There are those who think the disabled are useless but, there are many of us who are disabled and but able.”

Currently, the vocational training school offers 6 courses and over 40 trainees are attending. Electronic course takes 1 year and sewing, computer, logo making, hairdressing and photography courses take 3months.
