


China has donated 10 million Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccines and 13 million syrings to Myanmar. The final batch of the donated vaccines and sringes arrived Yangon on Sunday morning.
Moreover, two mobile laboratory vehicles donated by the Chinese Embassy, arrived Yangon via Muse border gate.
The donated vaccines, medical items and mobile laboratory vehicles have been handed over to the Ministry of Health at a ceremony, held at Yangon International Airport on Sunday.
Chinese Ambassador to Myanmar Mr. Chen Hai expressed that the donations have been implemented under the “China-ASEAN Health Shield” Initiative .
He mentioned that COVID-19 pandemic has been under control in Myanmar and the socio-economic condition has been in normalcy.
He stressed that the efforts of Myanmar National Center of Disease Control (CDC) project could help improve the public health system and emergency health response measures of the country.
Union Minister Dr Thet Khaing Win also stressed that the donated vaccines will be administered to the students aged 5 to 12, when the school reopened soon.
Moreover, children out of school will also get vaccines. The mobile laboratory vehicles will also be used in testing COVID-19 at the border gates and it could benefit smooth flow of commodity and development of border trading.
He added taht COVID-19 vaccination has been carried out nation wide and the infection rate has been dropped to under 1%.
The Union Minister and the Ambassador later discussed matters on cooperation in health sector, COVID-19 containment measures in border areas, implementation of the project to eradicate malaria and animal disease laboratory in Myanmar-China border.
