UN Peacekeeping Officer Course: Deputy C-in-CDS attended and delivered opening speech

Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) General Kyaw Swa Lin attended the opening ceremony of the UN Peacekeeping Officer Course, jointly conducted by the Myanma Tatmadaw and Indian army to enable Myanmar Tatmadaw officers and ranks to understand United Nations peacekeeping operations, held Monday afternoon at PARKROYAL Hotel in Nay Pyi Taw, and delivered the opening speech.

First, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) General Kyaw Swa Lin and officials observed and studied records of the Indian Army's service in UN peacekeeping operations as well as records of joint exercises between the Myanma Tatmadaw and Indian army on UN peacekeeping operations, with responsible officials providing explanations and demonstrations.

After that, the opening ceremony of the course was held. Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) General Kyaw Swa Lin delivered the opening speech, and the Indian Ambassador to Myanmar, Mr. Abhay Thakur, gave an opening address.

Then, the Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) and attendees watched a video clip titled "Indian Army Contribution to the United Nations Peacekeeping Operations." Following this, the lead course instructor from the Indian Center for United Nations Peacekeeping (CUNPK) explained the course objectives and training related to United Nations peacekeeping operations.

Afterwards, the Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army), the Indian Ambassador to Myanmar, and the lead course instructor exchanged commemorative gifts. The ceremony concluded with a group photo taken together with the attendees, instructor officers, and trainees.

This is the ninth edition of the course, with 30 officer trainees from the Army, Navy, and Air Force attending. The curriculum will cover subjects including the history, structure, regulations, and ongoing operations of UN peacekeeping missions, codes of conduct for UN peacekeeping forces, protection of civilians, child protection, civil-military coordination, patrolling, convoy security, company base camp construction, and Exercise BlueHelmet. Both theoretical and practical training will be provided, and the course will run until May 22, it’s reported.
