The "Training of Trainers (ToT) on Analyzing Yield Gaps to Achieve Target Yields" continued for its second day on October 15 at the Agricultural Education and Rural Development Training School in Yezin, Zeyarthiri Township, Nay Pyi Taw. It was learned that Deputy Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation Dr. Tin Htut conducted a lecture and discussion.

During his lecture, Deputy Minister Dr. Tin Htut instructed that responsible officials from the Department of Agriculture in various Regions and States must carry out participatory benchmarking in their respective areas, with the collaboration of farmers, to record details such as the number of farmers achieving yields above the target, the extent of the surplus, and the farming practices used to achieve higher yields. Similarly, under the "1 must do and 5 reduction" strategy, participatory seed production, involving farmers, must be implemented as an essential activity ("1 must do").

Following this, Professors and Associate Professors from the Agricultural University lectured and discussed the Empirical Procedure for Farmer Participatory Benchmarking Yield Gap Analysis, which involves setting standards and benchmarks with farmer participation, and the methods for calculating yield gaps in rice crops aimed at achieving target yields, based on survey data collection.

At the closing ceremony of the training, the Director-General of the Department of Agriculture presented a course completion certificate to one trainee on behalf of all participants.

It was reported that this two-day training was attended by 33 officials from the Department of Agriculture from seven Regions and States, and cascade training sessions will continue to be conducted in their respective regions.
