Oral hearings regarding the case between The Gambia and Myanmar are currently being held from January 12 to January 29 at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague, Netherlands. Myanmar presented its first round of oral arguments on January 19, from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM local time.

During the proceedings, Myanmar’s counsel, Mr. Sam Bloom-Cooper, responded to and rebutted The Gambia’s allegations that the Tatmadaw carried out a "pattern of conduct" with genocidal intent against Bengalis during counter-terrorism operations.

This specifically addressed allegations regarding operations in villages in northern Rakhine State, including Min Gyi, Chut Pyin, and Maung Nu. Myanmar’s lead counsel, Mr. Christopher Staker, provided further rebuttals concerning other evidence submitted and cited by The Gambia. Detailed reports of the responsive arguments and legal pleadings will be featured in the daily newspapers and online media.
