Train Around Yangon: Schedule Of Yangon Circular Train To Be Resumed On 8th February

The schedule of Yangon Circular train going to resume on 8th February according to the media briefing held in Yangon Railway Station on Tuesday.

Yangon circular train was temporarily suspended during the railway upgrading project. The upgrading project has been started in mid-2018 with the aim of enhancing capacity of the staffs and the safe and comfortable public transport services of Yangon Circular Railway line by renovating and replacing the existing railway facilities.

Funding is sourced from the Myanmar Railways budget and ODA loan from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

Traffic manager, Myanma Railways (No.7 division), Zaw Lwin said “As a result of the project, the operating speeds will also increase to 60-km per hour from the current speed of 48-km. Waiting times will be reduced significantly for the passengers during peak hours and after upgrading, it will service about 260,000 commuters, daily.”

Yangon Circular Railway line is being upgraded by dividing into 2 sections - eastern and western. Shwetaung Company is upgrading the eastern section of Yangon railway, while the works on the western section are being carried out by A1 Company. The whole project of upgrading Yangon Circular Railway is scheduled to be completed by 2022.

Yangon Circular railway was opened in 1959 with just 29.5 miles length. Since the extension as dual Road in 1960, it has reached 59 miles with 38 train stations and 25 level crossings.

About 25 trains have run for about 85,000 commuters with 220 plies daily by taking 2 hours and 50 minutes for the whole route before the project.
