Tourism Sector Resumption: Union Minister Joins Destination Recovery Session

The Union Minister for Hotels and Tourism Dr. Htay Aung attended the COVID-19 Destination Recovery Insights Exchange-Session 3 online presided by PATA (Pacific Asia Travel Association) and the World Bank on Tuesday.

Before the Session, the Union Minister stressed experience exchange for the COVID-19 hit destination, resumption of the tourism sector, readmission of world travellers, challenges when the tour destinations are reopened, experience of international governments during the COVID-19 pandemic and preparations to resume the Myanmar tourism sector.

In the first section of the Session, the Chief Executive Officer of PATA and the Senior Tourism Specialist of World Bank gave opening speeches.

The Director-General and officers of the Directorate of Hotels and Tourism and other officials of Guam Visitors Bureau and Macao Government Tourism Office discussed the plans to resume the tour in the post-COVID-19 period. The roundtable discussion focused on the conduction of health awareness programmes, fully vaccination programmes, adoption of widely digital promotion of COVID Safe Destination and arrival visa issues.

The PATA was established in 1951 and currently, there are more than 500 member countries. Myanmar became a member in 1995 and joined the travel expo, workshops and training conducted by PATA. The PATA mainly organizes training and talks online to resume the tourism of member countries in the COVID-19 pandemic.
