Sydney's 2-week lockdown extended for another week

Sydney's lockdown has been extended for another week as authorities seek to contain a latest cluster of coronavirus cases with the population still largely unvaccinated against COVID-19. New South Wales State Premier Gladys Berejiklian said the decision to extend measures until the end of July 16 had been made on health advice. The move means that most children will not return school next week following their mid-year break. Only 9% of Australian adults are fully vaccinated, heightening fears that the highly contagious delta variant could quickly spread beyond control. There have been more than 300 coronavirus infections in Sydney linked to a driver who tested positive on June 16.
