Displaced Palestinians in Gaza City are going to the beach to escape extreme summer heat in overcrowded tents, where many families say they have no electricity, fans or adequate shelter. People spent much of the day outside their tents seeking shade and using cardboard to cope with the heat.

Some say they are also facing shortages of water and poor sanitation, while children swimming in the sea have developed skin allergies. The heat is making sleeping difficult, forcing families to leave their tents at night.  For many displaced families, the beach provides only temporary relief before they return to the same hot and inadequate shelters.
