The Government of the Republic of Union of Myanmar State Administration Council issued a Statement on Peace on 14th June 2022.

The statement reads that The Government and the Tatmadaw proclaimed the year 2022 as the year of peace with the goal of achieving perpetual peace as aspired by the entire nation. Chairman of the State Administration Council Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing delivered a speech of peace on 22 April and invited the chairperson/leader and two members of each EAO to hold a sincere and frank peace dialogue.

In response to the peace overture of Chairman of State Administration Council Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, seven NCA signatory EAOs and three non-signatory EAOs gave replies to hold peace talks in the interests of the Union and regions.

Of the said ten EAOs, peace delegations of six organizations had already met Chairman of State Administration Council Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing in person and cordially exchanged views on peace, the adoption of multiparty democracy that meets the public desire, the establishment of a Union based on democracy and federalism, socio-economic promotion of the locals, undertakings to develop from individual regions to the Union, which is home to the entire national people.

The talks produced positive and encouraging results. Peace talks will be continued with the remaining four organizations. The goal of the talks is to achieve perpetual peace in the whole Union. The State Administration Council will continue its work of strengthening the genuine and well-ordered multiparty democracy and building a Union based on democracy and federalism.

Solutions for the topics including agreeable subjects that fit the nation’s objective conditions, demands of EAOs and issues that look truly promising will be sought through brainstorming sessions.

In this regard, a peace overture is made once again to NCA signatory EAOs and non-signatory EAOs that are still absent from the peace talks and they are urged to truly realize the national and regional interests.

EAOs that will attend the peace dialogues are requested to send the names of the chairman or a leader who can make decisions on behalf of the chairperson and two members not later than 30 June 2022. EAOs are urged to join the peace process to build a peaceful Union in the interests of all the people of the Union, with the Union spirit as the core.
