Bamaw is one of the many Ayeyarwady riverside townships in Myanmar.  Flood and bank erosions become a common experience for Riverside townships and villages in later years. Even at the onset of rainy season this year, three houses had to remove to the safe place in the riverside Kaung-Sin Village n Bamaw Township.

Pyithu Hluttaw representative from Bamaw constituency explained about the arrangements for the houses, people, animals and plantations to mitigate from the loss caused by the riverside erosion.

Hluttaw Representative, Bamaw Constituency, Aung Thein said “Three houses have been moved due to the river bank erosion. In fact, we carried out retain wall and some barriers to prevent river bank erosion in this Kaung Sin Village since 2 years ago. Due to the full of water in the river this year, the bank and retain wall eroded. We are carrying out necessary arrangements and contacted the regional chief minister to rebuild the retain wall.”

The residents of Kaung Sin Village expressed their experience.

Resident, Kaung Sin Village, Nyein Maung said “Our village suffers from river bank erosion due to the full of water and water force. We including people and animals have no other place to move. My house has to be removed. I request to build better retain wall.”

Resident, Kaung Sin Village, Ko Gyi said “I’m one of village elders. We make necessary arrangements to move the riverside houses. The damages are less than we expect due to the retaining wall and other barriers. By building better retaining wall, our village will be safe.”

Village administrator, Kaung Sin Village, Nyunt Tin said “The houses to be eroded are moved and households are temporarily placed in the compound of their relatives. The township responsible officials are here now to inspect the situation. They will make arrangement for the households whose houses have to be moved.”

The riverside houses are being moved and the households are temporarily placed in the compound of their relatives and the pipes are installed to withstand the water erosion, it’s learnt.
