Settlement of War veterans: SG inspects War Veterans Housing (Laydauntkan)

Chairman of the State Administration Council Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing inspected progress in the construction of Myanma Tharkaung War Veterans Housing (Laydauntkan) in Dagon Myothit (South) Township in Yangon Region, Thursday.

At the briefing hall, officials reported to the Senior General on settlement of war veterans and families at the housing, extended construction of housing, growing of shade trees, supply of water and electricity, raising of advanced layer farms for food, accommodation and livelihoods of war veterans, operation of a garment factory, welfare tasks in the housing, construction of playground and library in the housing.

In response to the reports, the Senior General stressed the need to arrange settlement of war veterans at the remaining apartments although completed apartments have been allotted to war veterans and families.

As it is an urban project, emphasis must be placed on the enhancement of the education qualification of family members. Arrangements are being made to establish the businesses based on agriculture and livestock farms, vocational training schools and jobs, technical high schools, and agriculture and livestock high schools in the compound of the housing.

Moreover, the Senior General urged officials to build a modern shopping mall for the enhancement of the living standard of the local people. Union minister and officials reported on suitable content in urbanization, proper drainage systems, and implementation for tasks of education, health and job opportunities.

The Senior General responded to the reports. Myanma Tharkaung War Veterans Housing (Laydaunt-kan) project was started in 2017 with the aim of establishing the war veteran city for those who took retirement from the Tatmadaw with wishes to reside in Yangon.

The project will be an urban project facilitated with education, health, social, economic and other basic needs of residents from the housing. The housing comprises a hospital, school and library. War veterans and families are resettled there, and the housing is being extended in construction.
