




Twe Let Project Knowledge Sharing and Planning Event took place in Nay Pyi Taw on Thursday.
The event aims to know about the key findings of the project phase-1 and the work processes, strategies and approaches of the phase-2.
Phase-1 of the project was implemented in Mon, Kayin, Shan and Chin States and Taninthayi, Magwe and Mandalay Regions from January 2017 to June 2019.
During the phase-1 period, the educative training on safety migration, financial literacy training and skills development training were conducted and also supported for job-matching.
A total of 3337 persons have completed the trainings, and 1738 persons have been employed and engaged in a manageable business.
The Phase-2 of the project is going to be implemented in Kayin, Chin, Mon and Shan States and Mandalay, Magwe and Taninthayi Regions from July 2019 to June 2020.
During this period, trainings on safety migration and managing remittance as well as skills development and assessing the research for migration will be conducted.
Moreover, they will be provided knowledge on findings safety migration facts from trustful source and managing for small business. In addition, the Migrant Resource Centers will also be opened.
Director General, Department of Labour, Win Shein said “Migrant Resource Center have been opened in 10 Regions and States. We plan to open MRCs in Myeik and Tachileik. Through these centers, those who wish to migrate can get access for necessary information.”
Twe Let Project is aiming at promoting, enhancing development impact through labour migrations by strengthen governance and partnership. It also supports migrants and their families from rural communities ensuring that their migration decisions improve living conditions, helping them out of poverty and sustainable development.
Chief of Mission, IOM Myanmar, Akio Nakayama said "Despite that migration made a lot of contribution to socio-economic and cultural development, unfortunately, there are also negative sides like unsafe migration through irregular channels including trafficking, smuggling, and also various forms of exploitations and human rights violations. So, we are working with Myanmar Government and all partners to alert these are opportunities and challenges.
The Ministry of Labour, Immigration and Population led the implementation of Twe Let Project in cooperation with International Organization for Migration and development partners, with the fund support by Livelihoods and Food Security Trust Fund.
