The Ministry of Health has released health and safety guidelines for the 2026 Thingyan Water Festival, urging the public to celebrate in a safe and healthy manner.
The ministry advised people to protect themselves from extreme heat by avoiding direct sunlight during midday, staying hydrated, and limiting alcohol consumption. It also warned against water-borne diseases, recommending the use of clean water for splashing and avoiding contact with eyes, ears, and mouth.
To prevent accidents, the public is urged to be cautious on wet and slippery roads, follow traffic rules, and avoid driving under the influence of alcohol. The ministry also emphasized the importance of personal hygiene, including regular handwashing and consuming clean food, while food vendors are instructed to maintain proper sanitation. People experiencing heat-related illness or injuries are advised to seek immediate medical attention at nearby clinics or hospitals.
