Safeguarding Tradition: Citizens urged to preserve traditional essence of Thingyan

The Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture made an announcement to encourage every citizen in Myanmar who are going to celebrate 1387 Myanmar Traditional Maha Thingyan Festival to enjoy the festival in accordance with Myanmar customs and culture, upholding Myanmar’s graciousness and politeness.

Washing away the weariness by splashing water and sensing the fresh start of a year, the citizens must foster national characteristics during the festival and gain vigor to strive for the interest of the nation.

The Ministry also advises the citizens to refrain from excessive behaviors and manners which against Myanmar tradition and customs and diminish the value of Myanmar Traditional Thingyan, to avoid violent actions which can cause injury to others and disruptive behavior that could harm the prestige of respective community and organization as well as to restrain overconsumption of alcohol which can lead to unnecessary problems.
