REW-2024 Forum: Myanmar delegation led by MoEP UM

The Myanmar delegation led by Union Minister for Electric Power U Nyan Tun visited Moscow of Russian Federation from 26th to 28th September, to attend the 7th Russian Energy Week International Forum (REW-2024).

During the visit, Union Minister U Nyan Tun participated in a panel discussion titled "Low-Carbon Energy: The Foundation of a Sustainable Future" at the 7th Renewable Energy Week (REW) on September 26.The discussion featured prominent figures, including Alexey Likhachev, Head of ROSATOM and the Malian Minister of Finance and the Economy.

Union Minister U Nyan Tun addressed various topics, including the implementation of renewable energy power generation projects, the widespread use of small solar systems, home solar systems, run-of-river solar systems and electric vehicles.

He also emphasized the goal of reducing carbon dioxide emissions by over 105 million tons by 2030, as outlined in the Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC).Following the panel discussion, the Union Minister, alongside the Myanmar Ambassador to the Russian Federation participated in a plenary meeting where key agenda items of the forum were addressed by Russian President Vladimir Putin and Equatorial Guinean President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo .

Next, the Union Minister and the delegation engaged with the head of Rosatom and his team to discuss collaborative efforts in developing the electric power sector between Myanmar and Russia.Subsequently, the Myanmar delegation toured the exhibition galleries showcased at the forum.

On September 27, the Union Minister met with representatives from several companies collaborating with the Ministry of Electric Power, including Rosatom Renewable Energy Company, Rosatom Smart Utilities Company and Rosatom Energy Projects. During the meeting, they discussed the issues on advancing wind power initiatives and upgrading hydropower plants.

On September 28, the Union Minister and his delegation visited the Atom Pavilion, where they observed Russia's advancements in nuclear technology and the current development landscape.After wrapping up  their official visit, the Myanmar delegation departed from Moscow and returned to Myanmar on the evening of September 29.
