Religious Ceremony: Conferring Diploma of Buddha Dhamma

With the supervision of the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture, the auspicious Ceremony of Conferring Diploma of Buddha Dhamma for the 2019-2020 and 2021-2022 academic years took place at the International Theravada Buddhist Missionary University in Mayangone Township of Yangon, Tuesday in conjunction with  the Fresher Welcome ceremony for the 2022-2023 academic year of Diploma (B.Dh) students in accordance with the COVID-19 prevention guidelines.  

The ceremony began with recitation of “Namotasa” three times. The acting rector Sayadaw of the University Ashin Chekinda delivered a congratulatory and welcoming speech to the candidates and conferred the diploma of Buddha Dhamma certificates on the students who have passed the examination. There’re 217 attendees to this ceremony; 83  Dip (B.Dh) holders, 18 candidates holding BA (B.Dh), 25 students holding MA (B.Dh), 4 PhD (B.Dh) holders and  87 new Dip (B.Dh) students for local and abroad.

The aims of this university are to share the genuine Theravada Buddhism all around the world, to collaborate with local and foreign universities which can support the university’s missions for the propagation of Sasana, to help local and foreign trainees learn the Theravada Pidakats in their original form and to promote the four modes of sublime living (Brahmavihara) which would lead to the establishment of peaceful and prosperous world. 

Pro-Rector (Admin), Int’l Theravada Buddhist Missionary University, Sein Maw said "Aiming to spread the Padiyati and Buddhist literature to all over the world, the International Theravada Buddhist Missionary University was opened in 1998. The university offers Dip (B.Dh), BA (B.Dh), MA (B.Dh) and PhD (B.Dh) courses. Dip (B.Dh) is 1-year course, BA (B.Dh) is 2-years, MA (B.Dh) for 3 years and PhD (B.Dh) for 4 years. If you want to attend to this university, you have to apply the entrance exam about Buddhist literature first and have to test English skill via personal interview. It will be allowed to attend here only if you passed the entrance exam."

Student (Russia), Int’l Theravada Buddhist Missionary University, Frolov Egor said “I think Buddhism is very useful and our life, it makes our life peaceful, it makes our life healthier and it helps to be good people. It promotes peace in the world. We can learn a lot how to control our mind, how to be happy and how to be escape from sufferings. I think it is important nowadays. I think Buddhism affects our culture and society in a very big stand because people hold beliefs in Buddhism behave more peacefully, friendly and contributing to the peace in the entire world.” “When you practice the Buddhism if you spread the Buddhism, if you make other people believe in Buddhism, then our world, our environment, our society becomes more peaceful and how to stay harmonious.” 

Student, Int’l Theravada Buddhist Missionary University, Su Yee Mon  said "All need to study about the Buddhism. It should also be encouraged for young generation to study Buddhism. During the summer holidays, Dhamma schools and such training courses should be provided for children since childhood life to know well about religion. In doing so, the Buddhism can be passed on to new generations. "

The International Theravada Buddhist Missionary University was established since 1998 and turned out 1,121 Dip (B.Dh) holders, 804 candidates holding BA (B.Dh), 228 students holding MA (B.Dh) and 36 PhD (B.Dh) holders from local and abroad.
