Nearly three decades since more than 1,000 red-crowned cranes called Tram Chim National Park in Dong Thap their seasonal home, this iconic species is making a long-awaited return. Though once a proud symbol of the Mekong Delta, the cranes had gradually vanished—with some years seeing no visits at all.

Their comeback now brings hope for both conservation efforts and the region's ecological recovery. This resurgence is attributed to extensive ecosystem and habitat restoration initiatives. The park has implemented measures such as natural water regulation, reed field management, and the burning of thatch to promote the growth of tubers, a primary food source for the cranes.
