Reading Habit Promotion: Efforts for school library development

A ceremony on the Development of School Library and Promoting Reading Habit took place at No.4 Basic Education High School in Tamwe Township of Yangon Region on Friday with the attendance of Chief Minister U Soe Thein, many other concerned officials and invited guests.

The ceremony was jointly organized by the Ministry of Education and the Information and Public Relations Department.

Under the guidance of the Township Education Officer, all the basic education schools within the township took part for successfully holding of the ceremony.

Kyu Kyu Khaing, Township Education Officer, Tamwe Township said "Being a Township Education Officer of Tamwe township, it’s good to see the students from primary, middle and high schools are actively participating in this event.And, I would like to thanks to all principals and education officers for supporting me. For promoting reading habit of school age children, the Ministry of Education arranged the library visit timetable for schools across the country."

Starting from 9th September, preparations have been made for 6 kinds of skill competitions including round table talk, impromptu talk, essay, poetry speaking, storytelling and painting. 10 students have been selected for each competition.

Hein Htet Thu, Grade-8 Student, No.5 B.E.H.S (Tamwe), said " I took part in storytelling competition and prepared 3 different stories. During the competition, a story was chosen by drawing lots. And, I grabbed the 1st prize with the title of “Tiger in the Trap”. I would like to urge all to nurture reading habits."

During the ceremony, prizes were awarded to the winning students at the competition. The ceremony also includes the entertainment programs by the performance troupes.
