The Information Team of the State Administration Council issued a statement regarding violent attacks taking advantage of earthquake relief efforts on April 2nd.

On March 28, 2025, Myanmar experienced a very powerful earthquake, resulting in significant impacts on the people, including loss of life and property. In response, Tatmadaw personnel, members of police forces, firefighters, humanitarian organizations, and individual rescuers collaborated with the international relief teams to provide assistance to affected individuals without discrimination based on ethnicity or political affiliations, tirelessly working day and night.

However, taking advantage of the weakened security situation, terrorists armed insurgents including so-called PDF launched coordinated assaults on security forces and rescue operations, targeting a security outpost with limited personnel and attacking emergency vehicle.

In light of these actions, some online media and foreign outlets, aligned with the terrorist group known as NUG, have exaggerated claims about ongoing airstrikes by the Tatmadaw during the aftermath of the earthquake, misrepresenting the true ground situation and engaging in one-sided smearing narratives. During this time of hardship caused by the earthquake, when people are suffering, it is unacceptable for the NUG and its associated armed factions to continue violent assaults driven by political gain.

The government of Myanmar, along with its citizens, firmly condemns the actions of the NUG and its affiliates who are exacerbating the situation. Both domestic and international organizations are urged to closely monitor the violent acts perpetrated by the NUG and its armed affiliates and to be cautious about statements that may support their inhumane actions.

The Tatmadaw remains committed to opening avenues for peace and encourages avoiding unfounded allegations while emphasizing the necessity of pursuing peace without resorting to conflict or making political capital from the tragedy.
