Pre-Monsoon Tree Planting: 2,120 Saplings Planted In Lashio

Pre-monsoon tree planting ceremony was held at the pine tree plantation area near Htin Shu Myaing Housing in Lashio, Shan State (North) on Tuesday.

At the event, Shan State Chief Minister Dr KyawTun said that the ceremony aimed for greening the environment, the long-term sustainability of natural resources, conservation of eco-system and public participation in the activity. He also said that the pre-monsoon tree planting ceremonies will be held in 14 townships of Shan State (North) and 12,560 plants will be planted.

The Forest Department will distribute over 489,000 saplings to departments, regiments and units and people with free of charge. The Chief Minister, the North-East Command Commander and officials planted the saplings and encouraged the people planting the trees. At the ceremony, a total of 2,120 saplings of teaks, pine, gum-kino, hard wood, cherry among others. Later, the Chief Minister and party visited Man Su Shan Monastery in Lashio and donated offertories to the Sayadaw as well as cash contributed by Shan State government for building religious building.

They then proceeded to agricultural and livestock model farm of the North-east Command and viewed around cow, pig and goat breeding. They also looked into poultry farm and feedstuff factory at the Agricultural and Livestock Model Camp.
