Paddy Cultivation & Production: Rice Is Enough In Local And Surplus Rice Is Exported

Rice is a staple food of Myanmar and it is mainly cultivated in the country. The rice consumption of the people is enough in local with the paddy production rate of the country.

In the previous year, there was 15 million acres of monsoon paddy cultivation in Myanmar and it could produce 1,088 million baskets of paddy. 2 million acres of summer paddy were grown and 213 million baskets of paddy could be produced.

The rice demand for 55 million population of the country is 9.402 million tons of rice and 2.88 million tons of surplus rice could be exported. As of August 2022, 3.635 million tonnes of rice are left in local and the rice demands for four months(September to the end of this year) in local are 3.134 million tonnes. That’s why,rice is enough for the local consumers. Farmers are growing quality paddy strain for high yield per acre. It is also implementing to cultivate summer paddy, beans, corns and oil crops across the country with Cooperative Farming System in upcoming cultivation season.

Besides, it is learnt that the Participatory Irrigation Management is being implemented that can be managed by farmers themselves for the enhancement of the agriculture sector and socioeconomic life of farmers.
