Opening training: MoNREC UM gave opening speech

With the aims to support the development of rural areas, the opening ceremony of bamboo cultivating, making bamboo shoot pickled, fresh bamboo shoot and dry bamboo shot, and market linkage course was held at the meeting hall of Department of Forest Research in Yesin on Monday and attended by the Union Minister for Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation U Khin Maung Yi.

During the ceremony, Union Minister made an opening speech saying that the training is a part of Forest Ecosystem Management Planning and Demonstration Project in Greater Mekong Sub-region (Myanmar) carried out by the collaboration of Forest Department and the Asia Pacific Network on Forest Restoration and Sustainable Forest Management – APFNet. More than 70 percent population in Myanmar are rural population and they rely on non-timber forest products including bamboo or forest products for their livelihood.

Myanmar is 3rd largest bamboo growing country in the world with an annual bamboo production rate of 301 million units and 2.4 million viss production of bamboo shoot per year. Union Minister said that the Government is creating the job opportunities for local people by establishing the bamboo plantations, bamboo production, producing bamboo-based handicrafts and value-added finished products, as well as for the development of MSME businesses based on local raw materials to replace imports and promote exports sector.

On the same day,  Union Minister attended the opening ceremony of cross-border smog pollution control and air quality monitoring equipment handling trainings at the meeting hall of Department of Environmental Conservation and made an opening speech.

In his speech, Union Minister said the air quality monitoring and analysis project regarding cross-border smog pollution is a Mekong-Lanchang joint project from 2021 to 2024. The training is designed to increase efficiency in air pollution prevention and control monitoring activities, to prevent the consequences of air pollution and establish a good environmental quality monitoring system. Then, Union Minister cordially greeted with trainees and took a documentary photo.
