Nutrition Development Weeks: MoH UM attended the central-level ceremony

The central-level ceremony for the 2025 Nutrition Development Weeks was held in the morning on August 7, in the meeting room of the Ministry of Health, in Nay Pyi Taw.

At the ceremony, the Union Minister for Health, Professor Dr. Thet Khaing Win, gave an opening speech. He stated that the entire month of August is designated as "Nutrition Development Weeks." Celebrations are held at the central, regional, and state levels, with weekly activities also taking place in districts, townships, and villages.

He explained that the first week is dedicated to "Proper Breastfeeding Week," the second to "Nutrition Development Week for Children Under Five and Students," the third to "Nutrition Development Week for Pregnant and Lactating Mothers," and the fourth to "Iodine Deficiency Eradication Week." He also mentioned that this year's global theme for World Breastfeeding Week, as set by the World Health Organization, is "Invest in Breastfeeding, Invest In the Future."

Following this, the Union Minister and Deputy Minister presented awards to the students who won the essay competition for the 2025 Nutrition Development Weeks. A commemorative video was shown, and attendees toured a small exhibition. Vitamin A supplements were given to preschool children, while pregnant mothers received iron-rich micronutrient supplements, Vitamin B1 supplements, and commemorative gifts.

In the afternoon, the Union Minister attended a meeting with nurses from the Department of Public Health, Department of Medical Services, and Department of Health Human Resources, where he gave guidance. Deputy Minister of Health, Professor Dr. Aye Tun, also gave a speech with guidance. Attendees then raised and discussed the difficulties they face in their work.

The Union Minister, Deputy Minister, and other officials provided guidance and coordinated solutions. Directors-General from the departments under the ministry presented the current status of health human resource development and nursing activities, as well as future plans. The Union Minister then gave a concluding speech.
