Yangon Region Chief Minister U Soe Thein visited the Aphyauk Natural Gas Field in Taikkyi Township on Friday.

During the visit, officials from Myanma Oil and Gas Enterprise under the Ministry of Energy explained the current production conditions, ongoing operations, and efforts to increase gas output through research on old wells.

The Chief Minister said increasing natural gas production is beneficial for the country, especially during fuel shortages. He also praised the staff of the Ministry of Energy for their efforts, and presented awards and cash incentives to the staff.

The Aphyauk Natural Gas Field, which was close to stopping operations, resumed production on December 1, 2023, due to research efforts. Currently, gas is being produced from one new well and four old wells. Well No. 57 is expected to produce about 1.5 million cubic feet of gas per day. The gas is mainly used for taxis, buses, and cargo vehicles in Yangon Region.
