The opening ceremony of the Multiplier Training Course on handling and using the Myanmar Electronic Voting Machine (MEVM) was held at the State Hall in Loikaw in the morning on July 14. Attendees included State Chief Minister U Zaw Myo Tin, the Commander of Regional Military Operations Command, the State Chief Justice, members of the State Government, departmental officials, and trainees from various departments.
First, the Chief Minister delivered the opening speech, stating that preparations are underway to successfully hold the multi-party democratic general election in the state, in line with the nation's future programs. He emphasized that the upcoming election will be the first in the country's electoral history to use electronic voting machines. This initiative aims to enable voters to cast their ballots easily, quickly, and conveniently, and to obtain accurate, correct, and rapid election results, mirroring practices in other countries around the world. He stressed that as the participating staff will be directly operating these machines during the election, it is crucial for them to thoroughly focus on both the theoretical and practical aspects of the training.
Subsequently, the State Chief Minister presented a cash assistance for the training, which was received by the State Election Officer. The State Election Officer then provided a detailed explanation regarding the purpose of opening the multiplier training course on handling and using the MEVM, including its operational procedures and benefits. After that, the Chief Minister warmly greeted and encouraged the staff from various departments attending the training.
Following this, the State Election Officer provided a practical demonstration of how to use the MEVM to the Chief Minister and other officials at the Loikaw City Hall. The Chief Minister also observed and encouraged the ongoing MEVM training sessions, noting the enthusiastic practical participation of the trainees.
This training will be conducted in three batches for departmental staff within the state: the first and second batches will each have 150 trainees, and the third batch will have 130 trainees, totaling 430 staff members, it’s reported.
