The Ministry of Energy announced new measures to monitor fuel sales to prevent shortages and ensure that people who truly need fuel can buy it easily.

Fuel stations will use a mobile application system to check purchases and prevent vehicles from buying fuel multiple times a day at different stations. For cars, station staff will scan the Wheel Tax barcode. If the vehicle has not purchased fuel that day, it can buy fuel.

If it already purchased fuel once, it will not be allowed to buy again until the next day. For motorcycles, since their Wheel Tax does not have a barcode, stations will generate a QR code using the vehicle number and tax expiry date. Owners must show this QR code when buying fuel.

The system will also check whether the vehicle is allowed to operate on that day according to government vehicle-use policies. The trial system will begin on March 12, in Nay Pyi Taw, Yangon, Mandalay, and Taunggyi. After testing and improvements, it will be expanded to other cities. The Ministry of Energy said it is also monitoring fuel import, storage, distribution, and sales in real time through the Online Monitoring Center in Nay Pyi Taw to ensure a stable fuel supply.
