Official Visit : State-level welcome ceremony and bilateral talks

President U Min Aung Hlaing was accorded a state-level welcome ceremony by Vietnamese President Tô Lâm at the forecourt of the National Assembly Building in Hanoi on Saturday. On arrival of the President and his wife at the venue, they were received by President Tô Lâm and his wife.

Vietnamese schoolchildren also welcomed the visiting couple with bouquets of flowers. The two presidents then proceeded to the ceremonial podium, where they received a Guard of Honour salute accompanied by the national anthems of Myanmar and Viet Nam.

Following this, President U Min Aung Hlaing and President Tô Lâm inspected the Guard of Honour. The two presidents and their wives later introduced senior officials and representatives from their respective delegations. Following the ceremony, President U Min Aung Hlaing and Vietnamese President Tô Lâm held bilateral discussions.

The Vietnamese President congratulated Myanmar on the successful holding of its general election and the formation of a new elected government. He expressed confidence that Myanmar, under President U Min Aung Hlaing’s leadership, will make further progress in stability, socio-economic development, governance, and international and regional relations.

He highlighted the long-standing friendship and historic ties between Viet Nam and Myanmar, noting that the two countries established a Comprehensive Cooperative Partnership in 2017. He also recalled the historic visits of Myanmar Prime Minister U Nu to Vietnam in 1954 and Vietnamese President Ho Chi Minh to Myanmar in February 1958, which laid the foundation for bilateral friendship.

The Vietnamese President said the current visit of President U Min Aung Hlaing could further strengthen bilateral friendship, cooperation and partnership, and help promote deeper and more practical Viet Nam-Myanmar relations in the years ahead.

President U Min Aung Hlaing congratulated the Vietnamese President on his leadership and extended his best wishes to the Vietnamese people on the country’s 81st National Day. He also praised Vietnam’s long-standing efforts for national independence, reunification, development and nation-building.

He noted the two countries had enjoyed more than 50 years of diplomatic relations and long-standing friendship and cooperation. The President also called for stronger cooperation between the two governments, parliaments, political parties and peoples.

He also highlighted opportunities to expand trade, investment, transport and connectivity between Myanmar and Viet Nam. He proposed greater cooperation through regional transport networks and economic corridors linking Southeast and South Asia.

On foreign policy, he said Myanmar pursues an independent, active and non-aligned foreign policy and maintain balanced relations with other countries. He expressed confidence that Myanmar-Viet Nam friendship and cooperation could reach a new level based on existing friendship and multisectoral cooperation.

The Vietnamese President said Vietnam will study and cooperate on strengthening the Myanmar-Thailand-Laos-Vietnam East-West Economic Corridor, as well as the India-Myanmar-Laos-Vietnam route.

He called for stronger cooperation in political relations, defence and security, trade and investment, connectivity, information technology, social affairs, culture, education and tourism, as well as greater coordination on regional and international issues.

The two Presidents also made discussions on Myanmar’s political developments and ways to strengthen bilateral relations and cooperation. They exchanged views on trade, investment, agriculture, livestock, industry, renewable energy, education, healthcare and human resource development.

They also discussed communications, digital technology, innovation, social and women’s affairs, culture, people-to-people exchanges, tourism and air connectivity. The two leaders also discussed cooperation to combat online scams and illegal gambling, as well as regional and international issues, and agreed to further promote the existing friendship and cooperation between the two countries.
