Livestock Sector: Work undertakings in Bago Region

Bago Region Department of Livestock Breeding and Veterinary is trying to develop the livestock sector in 28 townships of the region.  

The work processes have been undertaking with the supervision of the Regional Government.

The department is working on to improve livestock production, to implement Emerald Green livestock project and to provide Artificial Insemination (AI) breeding services.

Dr. Win Thu, Regional Officer, Livestock Breeding and Veterinary Department (Bago) said "To help breeders to get high-quality cattle, we are providing AI breeding service depends on the breed of the cattle in 28 townships of Bago Region. We also give vaccines to cattle to prevent diseases and distribute cattle under Emerald Green livestock project. "

Kyi Win, Moe Kaung Village-tract, Taungoo Township, Bago Region said "I have 45 cows and 40 buffalos. I put them to graze in pasture in the morning and feed them with straw in the evening. I feed young buffalos which are used to do chores broken rice and bran. I also sell male calfs and use their dung as fertilizer for my farms. "

Moreover, vaccines have been administered to the livestock animals to prevent and control the incidence and spread of diseases.

Khin Soe, Kan Thaya Ward, Oak Pho Township, Bago Region said "I have 5 cows, 2 horses and 2 pigs. I also provide AI services and there are about 1000 cattle that I have helped to breed using AI method.  We breed high-quality cows in addition to domestic cattle. The officials from livestock breeding and veterinary department give vaccines to our farm animals twice a year in rainy and winter season. I would like to thanks to the government and officials for helping our township to be easier to travel and to develop production businesses within the township. "

Zaw Min Lwin, Myo Taw Oo Livestock Farm, Bo Kone Ward, Bago said "I have been doing cow breeding business for about 6 years. Now I have 192 cows and feed them with the animal feeds, grass and other supplements. The livestock breeding and veterinary department also provides vaccines for my cows. "

It is learnt that 28 Napier grass plantations have been grown in 28 townships in Bago Region to distribute saplings to the breeders in order to get enough forage for livestock sector.
