Livestock Sector: Lewe declared as FMD Free Zone and Prevention Zone

Livestock Breeding and Veterinary Department declared Lewe Township in Nay Pyi Taw Union Territory as Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD) Free Zone and Prevention Zone, at a ceremony held in Nay Pyi Taw on Friday.

In his remarks, Union Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation U Min Naung underscored the anticipated advantages of the zone which helps accelerate the effective disease control and preventive measures and improve the socio-economic status of farmers and growers. He added that cattle farming and trading process will be promoted by eliminating FMD, which will increase the country’s gross domestic product (GDP).

The Union Minister also called on the responsible individuals to make strenuous efforts in implementing FMD Control and Prevention Zone in line with the established characteristics, ensuring the long-term resilience of the zone. Next, the officials presented reports matters on purpose of the zone and its benefits, procedures to be implemented for the sustainable resilience of the zone and further tasks to be carried out.
