The member of National Network Lawyers Against Spiritual Sales said criminal charges against the church were greatly affected by Abe's presence.
He added the number of charges was plunged after Abe became Japan's prime minister again. The suspect Tetsuya Yamagami has told the police that he killed Abe because of his links to a religious group that he hated, widely reported to be the Unification Church.
