Islands in Kawthaung District: The islands rich with natural beauty & resources

Kawt Thaung District in Tanintharyi Region is rich with long coastal islands, natural plants, mangroves forest, amphibians, different species of birds and underwater coral reefs, and possesses unique natural resources.

Since there are so many islands in the district, natural disasters rarely occur and the islands are full of sand coasts naturally and those protect the natural disasters to be mitigated. It is also a region with most local and foreign visitors.

There are 135 islands in Kawthaung District. Saturn Island is 1,500 meters long, and has 3 beautiful beaches. At the west part of the island, there are some beach resorts available for snorkeling which has fresh water.

At the north bay of Nyaung Oo Phee Island, there is a beautiful beach which has coral reefs at 20 meters deep.

Khayinkhwa Island is a green island which has a long beautiful beach with blue water. We can see sea snakes, sea eels, about 20 species of fish and boars there.

Nga Khin Nyo Gyi Island has beautiful rocks and naturally occurring stone currents. People can go snorkeling there.

At Kyun Pila Island, tourists usually celebrate campfire festivity. There is a 12 meters long beach with fresh water where lobsters can be acquired.

There is fresh water at 115 Island. The island can be accessible through forest road, and there is a 150-feet long steel reinforced concrete bridge.

Bo Cho Island is the spiritual home of the Moken  of Slon tribes. Tourists usually visit the island and they can purchase souvenirs there.

There is a heart-shaped pond in Kyatmauk Island, and the island is formed with steep mountains filled with rare birds and natural plants.

In the southern part of Lampi Island, there is a long beach with sea grass, mangroves and evergreen forests which are filled with natural plants, amphibians and birds. It is regarded as a marine national park.

Wa Ale () Island has a long sandy beach with natural mangroves and coral reefs, and it is a place for sea turtle breeding.

Hence, the islands in Kawthaung District of Tanintharyi Region are rich of natural resources such as beautiful underwater coral reefs, marine animals, mangroves, and evergreen forests. They are great tourist attractions for both local people and foreigners.
