



A ceremony to mark International Day of Museums was celebrated at the National Museum in Nay Pyi Taw on Wednesday. On the celebration day, free admissions to the national museums, holding special exhibitions and paper reading sessions were conducted at the National Museums across that nation.
The celebration aimed to get more knowledge for the people by studying the things and materials shown at the museum, relating the nation’s histories.
Dr Kyaw Oo Lwin, DG, Department of Archaeology and National Museum said “We especially intend to the youths and students from local. We exhibit cultural heritages of the nation especially the primates that were existed about 40 million years ago for the international tourists at the museum. We want to know the tourists that our country has its own culture, tradition and customs and historical eras until now.”
According to the Director General of the Department of Archaeology and National Museum, the types of the museums are classified as the national museum, cultural museum, archaeological museum and memorial museum in the country. There are 32 museums in Myanmar where the ancient cultural heritages are being preserved.
EiZin Thu, Staff Officer said “While preserving the cultural heritages of the nation, we will disseminate knowledge on intangible and tangible cultural heritages of the nation to the next generations in my message. If the young people understand the knowledge, we will be very satisfied.”
The International Council of Museums was established in 1977 and it marked every 18th May for the International Day of Museum. It has turned 45 years in 2022.
Myanmar became a member of the International Council of Museums in 2016 and has been celebrating the International Museum Day since 2017.
