Int’l Anti-Corruption Day: SAC VC addressed the ceremony

Vice-Chairman of the State Administration Council Deputy Prime Minister Vice-Senior General Soe Win addressed a ceremony marking the International Anti-Corruption Day held at Myanmar International Convention Center-1 in Nay Pyi Taw on Saturday.

Also present at the occasion were members of the State Administration Council, Union level officials, Union Ministers, Chairman of Nay Pyi Taw Council, Tatmadaw personnel, Commander of Nay Pyi Taw Command, Deputy Ministers, officials from the Anti-Corruption Commission and invited guests. Region and State Chief Ministers also joined the ceremony through video conferencing.

Speaking on the occasion, the Vice Senior General stressed that 9th December is designated as the International Anti-Corruption Day in accordance with the Resolution No. 58/4 of United Nations General Assembly, intending to raise awareness about corruption and take preventive measures.

On the other hand, consecutive raising-awareness campaigns and commemorative events are being held around the world. Myanmar ratified the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC) in 2005 and became the 165th member country in 2012 and also, the Anti-Corruption Law was enacted in 2013 and the Anti-Corruption Commission was formed in a bid to implement the provisions of the Convention, he added.

He also emphasized that special measures are being undertaken for effective mechanism to prevent against corruption. He highlighted that the corruption is the main consequence that leads to lack of civil service discipline, integrity and morality.

He urged all service personnel to carry out national duties without corruption, in accordance with the specified law, by-law, rules and regulations as well as procedures for the development of good governance system and the nation. He pointed out that the impacts of corruption, saying that it is one of the main obstacles in the development progress of the country and destroys the morality and personality of individuals.

He reiterated that effective action will be taken against anyone who takes its own benefits, deviates from the five point road-map and objectives set by the government and commits treason. Then, the chairman of Anti-Corruption Commission U Sit Aye reported on anti-corruption measures.

And, the Vice Senior General and chairman of Anti-Corruption Commission presented honorary medals, certificates of honor and honoraria to the respective winners of the poster campaign, video contest and essay competition marking International Anti-Corruption day respectively.

And, the Vice Senior General, together with attendees watched a video clip commemorating the International Anti-Corruption Day and viewed around the commemorative photos of the anti-corruption campaign.
