








Deputy Minister for Industry U Yin Maung Nyunt attended a meeting in Taunggyi (Aye Thaya) Industrial Zone to discuss the Industrial Zone Law and related regulations, as well as future plans for development.
The Deputy Minister emphasized quality control of construction materials, especially steel products, citing their importance in earthquake resilience. He urged all to ensure production quality and compliance with standards to improve domestic output and reduce imports. Discussions included support for industry development in Shan State.
Officials also replied the questions about the law’s provisions. After the meeting, the Deputy Minister and attendees viewed MSME product exhibits. It is learnt that Myanmar has 28 established industrial zones, 5 industrial parks, and 2 more in progress, employing over 556,000 workers in more than 8,000 businesses.
The Industrial Zone Law (2020) and Rules (2024) were introduced to improve zone development, relocate scattered industries into planned zones, and boost local employment and economic growth. These Laws define zone types, sizes, land use, prohibited activities, and management structures. A central committee and regional management bodies have been formed to oversee zone implementation and governance.
