Indian flag at half-staff to mourn Queen Elizabeth

India began observing one day of state mourning on Sunday as a mark of respect for Britain's Queen Elizabeth II.The national flag was lowered to half-staff on government buildings throughout the country, including Parliament, President House and the Red Fort in New Delhi.

India was already a democratic republic when Elizabeth took the throne in 1952, five years after India gained independence from the British empire.King Charles III was officially proclaimed Britain's monarch on Saturday.
