The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) has launched a mobile phone program that maps the distribution of COVID-19 cases in buildings. Developed by a research team led by Professor Gary Shueng Han Chan, it is the first app for COVID-19 prevention and control launched by a Hong Kong university.
Citizens can download the app to check for COVID-19 infection risks in buildings near them. The app displays infection density through a thermodynamic map through which you can know which places in Hong Kong are infected spots and how dense the infection is. In addition, if users turn on the GPS function of their mobile phones, the users will know the infections around them anytime and anywhere. Densities of cases are marked by colors such as yellow, orange, and red. This app helps citizens stay aware of the latest pandemic situation to reduce the risk of infection when traveling, Chan said.
