Flights from Haneda Airport in Tokyo to Gimpo Airport in Seoul resumed Wednesday for the first time in more than two years.
The route was suspended due to the spread of COVID-19 which halted travel around the world. Now with the approval of the Japanese and South Korean governments, passengers were seen checking in at the airport in Tokyo. Korean Air said that they plan to increase the number of flights in the future by taking into consideration the demand and restrictions in each country. Before the pandemic, tourism was booming as a mainstay of Japan's economy, the world's third largest. Foreign visitors numbered a record 32 million in 2019 and the target for 2020 was 40 million.
