Flash Flood: Over 19,000 residents affected by the floods in Myittha

Since 30th September, regions and states across the nation including Nay Pyi Taw Council Area have experienced moderate and intermittent severe rainfalls. On 1st October, the water level of PanLaung River in Myittha Township, Mandalay Region was surged due to consecutive rainfalls and caused inundations in villages along the river.

The flood has affected over 19,000 residents from six wards and 15 villages within Myittha Township. Among them, a total of 4,157 flood victims are now temporarily sheltered at 27 relief camps. At present, Tatmadawmen, members of Myanmar Police Force, departmental organizations and philanthropic organizations are providing necessary assistance and relief aids for the convenient accommodation of the flood victims.

Due to early warning issuances and systematic rescue measures, there was no casualty during flood. According to the current weather condition, the potential disasters such as heavy rainfalls, strong wind, lightning, sudden floods and landslides can be occurred across the nation.

Therefore, those who are residing in hilly region as well as along the river banks are advised to make necessary precaution measures. Those who are travelling through domestic maritime and aviation services are also advised to read timely warnings and instructions issued by the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology.
