


Myanmar exports over 800 to 1,000 tons of marine products to Bangladesh per month.
The yearly export of fisheries products if over 7,000 tons in 2019-2020, over 5,000 tons in 2020-2021 and over 11,000 tons in 2021-2022 mini budget year respectively.
Among these products, Carp is the major export item with 70%.
Director, Department of Fisheries, Rakhine State, ThetOo said “In 2019-2020, 7093.413 tons of Carp were exported to Bangladesh and the value was 6.318 million USD. In 2020-2021, 5010.70 tons of fisheries products exported with 4.76 million USD in value. During the year of 2021-2022, total export of fisheries products are up to 11,362.97 tons and the value is 13.387 million USD.”
The export volume was increased during the previous mini budget as the fisheries products have been transported directly to Sittwe by vessel. Due to the short period of travel time, more products have been able to export.
Director, Department of Fisheries, Rakhine State, ThetOo said “We transport the fisheries products from Yangon to Sittweby vessel at which pervious was done by the motor road. So, we can export lots of fisheries products in a short time. From January to 14 May 2022, 1881.72 tons of fisheries products were exported and the value is 2.335 million USD. Normally, we export around 1000 tons of fisheries products.”
Rakhine State is situated in a strategic place for exporting the fisheries products from Yangon, Ayeyawaddy and Bago Regions.
