Factories Inspection: Support for sustainable paper and furniture industries

Union Minister for Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation U Khin Maung Yi, along with Union Minister for Industry Dr. Charlie Than, undertook a visit to key industrial establishments in Yangon Region on November 25th. They visited the United Paper Mill in Dagon Myothit East Township, where officials provided updates on work implementation.

The Union Ministers inspected the paper production process, emphasizing the use of recycled cut papers as raw materials. They then continued to Nilar Pulp and Paper Mill in Dagon Seikkan Industrial Zone-1, which specializes in manufacturing paper from straw, kenaf, and southern cutgrass.

The finished products are imported to Japan. During discussions with pulp production entrepreneurs, Union Minister U Khin Maung Yi highlighted the importance of meeting local demands by operating paper production with diverse raw materials, including timber, bamboo straw, banana, and waste papers. He added that plans will be made for establishment of bamboo and timber plantations to ensure a sustainable supply of raw materials, reducing the need for foreign currency through decreased paper imports.

Union Minister Dr. Charlie Than emphasized the Ministry's support for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises , providing technical expertise, human resources, capital, and market access in collaboration with partner organizations. He encouraged efforts to boost production to meet local demand and explore export opportunities.

In the afternoon, Union Minister U Khin Maung Yi visited Sculpture Workshops in Dagon Seikkan and Thaketa Townships, overseeing the working processes and meeting with sculpture and furniture businesses. Support was provided based on their needs.

The Union Minister then visited the Sedan Furniture Factory in South Dagon Township, exploring displays of rattan and bamboo products. A visit to Bella Interior Rattan Industry included an inspection of the production process for export items, followed by a meeting with rattan businessmen to coordinate market penetration strategies.

In the evening, the Union Minister visited Wood Deiwi Furniture and SSS Furniture in North Okkalapa Township.
