Due to the lack of well-placed and regularly serviced public bins in Myanmar, plastics and polypropylene products have become a major environmental problem.

Myanmar is a country that attracts foreign tourists due to its rich cultural heritage and natural beauty. On the other hand, a lot of plastics and polypropylene trashes can lack the impression of tourists who visit the country’s popular landmarks and highways.

Waste management is one of the world’s biggest challenges in the 21st century. One of the most difficult to handle waste is plastics that do not decompose for more than 500 years.

According to a study on plastics pollution in Myanmar in 2019, 119 tons of plastics wastes flow into the Ayeyawaddy River every day and that make it one of the 10 most polluted rivers in the world.

There is also plastic pollution off the coast of Myanmar with 28,000 plastic pieces or waste per square kilometer and the Rakhine coast has more than the delta and southern Myanmar.

The effective solution to these problems are to reduce the use of plastics and polypropylene products and to maintain the well-placed and regularly serviced public bins.
