




On January 7, the Ministry of Education held a coordination meeting on upgrading selected education degree colleges to universities and improving teacher’s career prospects.
The meeting was attended by Union Minister Dr. Chaw Chaw Sein, Deputy Minister Dr. Zaw Myint and senior education officials. Speaking at the meeting, the Union Minister highlighted the Acting President’s commitment to expanding educational opportunities for Middle school teachers and teacher candidates. She said the selected education degree colleges will be upgraded to university level, allowing qualified teachers to pursue education and improve their career prospects.
The Union Minister encouraged all teachers to seize these opportunities and serve as dedicated civil servants. Starting from the 2026–2027 academic year, middle school students of Grades 6 to 9 will receive basic instruction in industry, agriculture, and livestock twice a week. This initiative aims to equip students with foundational knowledge and enable them to choose between specialized or regular high schools in higher education, along with the education degree colleges’ collaboration to support the implementation of these courses.
Deputy Minister Dr. Zaw Myint then provided a detailed explanation and formed a curriculum development committee, followed by sector-wise reports from rectors, professors of universities of education and principals of education degree colleges.
