The FIFA World Cup may be bringing as many as 1.2 million fans to Qatar, but nearby flashy Dubai is looking to cash in on a tournament taking place just a short flight away.
The host nation does not have the hotel capacity for all teams, workers, volunteers and fans at the World Cup.

Qatar has estimated it will have only 45,000 hotels rooms for the tournament. It is creating camping and cabin sites, hiring cruise ships, and encouraging fans to stay in neighboring countries and fly in for games.Dubai's airlines, bars, restaurants, shopping malls and other attractions now hope to benefit.

Extra World Cup business would further boost the rebounding tourism industry in the crucial fall and winter months after the blows delivered by the coronavirus pandemic.Dubai, like much of the world, locked down in the early phase of the pandemic in 2020.However, by July 2020, it announced itself reopen for tourists. And the UAE dropped its mandatory mask policy in September.
