COVID-19 Rehabilitation Process: Ministry of Construction Holds Coordination Meeting

The Ministry of Construction held a coordination meeting on Tuesday afternoon to explain the status of the Ministry of Construction and the collaboration of other ministries to harmonize the COVID-19 rehabilitation process.

In the meeting at the Assembly Hall of the Ministry of Construction, Union Minister U Shwe Lay explained the projects being implemented with international loans. Projects under the local joint venture B.O.T system have not been halted due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

It is difficult to control staff at project due to compliance with COVID-19 orders and directives. It is also difficult to collect materials, and contractors and local private B.O.T companies have been asked to extend the time due to delays in transporting machinery to the site. Requests from local private B.O.T companies are subject to the terms and conditions of the B.O.T contract and reviewed in detail and initially approved during the Ministry of Construction Management Committee meeting, the Union Minister added. Officials from the Yangon City Development Committee, Mandalay City Development Committee and departmental officials discussed the COVID-19 rehabilitation process.

Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Construction U Aung Myint Oo explained the work being carried out on the impact of the COVID-19 outbreak. This meeting also discussed the recommendations for economic rehabilitation and further action on the COVID-19 epidemic with local joint ventures and the B.O.T system.
