As the Basic Education Schools will be reopened on 2nd June across the country, the healthcare officials will start to give COVID-19 vaccines to students aged 5-12 in Nay Pyi Taw Council area starting 2nd June.

There are over 100,000 students aged 5-12 in Nay Pyi Taw Council area and 130 vaccination sites will be organized in 8 townships of Nay Pyi Taw to provide vaccines to the students.

The officials also plan to organize the vaccination sites in townships for the children who don’t attend the schools.

Dr. Sithu, Deputy Regional Medical Officer, Public Health Department (Nay Pyi Taw) said "We are planning to give Sinopharm vaccines to students aged 5-12.As Sinopharm vaccines are given to children aged 3 and above in China, it’s also safe for our students aged 5-12. As we need the consent of the students’ parents to give vaccines to their children, we explain the parents about the vaccines when they come to school to enroll their children. The Ministry of Health conducts this vaccination program to ensure the safety of the students, to reduce infection, death rates and severe illness."

COVID-19 vaccines have been provided to the middle and high school students aged 12-18 in the previous academic year, and 98.08% of the students were vaccinated, and about 96% have completed two doses.
