Commemorative Event: To mark the 7th Anniversary of Mekong-Lancang Cooperation

In honour of the 7th Anniversary of Mekong-Lancang Cooperation falls on 23rd March, the Exhibition on the Achievements of Mekong-Lancang Cooperation Special Fund Projects in Myanmar was organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday.

Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Transport and Communications Admiral Tin Aung San, Union Minister for Foreign Affairs U Than Swe, Union Ministers from the MLC Special Fund Projects implementation ministries, Ambassadors and Diplomats from the Embassies of Mekong-Lancang Cooperation Member States, Deputy Ministers and Senior Officials attended the commemorative event.

After formal opening of the Exhibition, the dignitaries observed outcome of 92 MLC Special Fund projects implemented by seventeen Ministries in 34 cooperation areas. At the commemorative reception, Union Minister U Than Swe delivered an address in which he praised the benefits of Mekong-Lancang Cooperation in pursuit of regional sustainable inclusive development as well as valuable assistance to the peoples of Myanmar through Mekong-Lancang Cooperation Special Platform.

He also highlighted the importance of MLC principles in the maintenance of regional peace and stability, and also for the promotion of socio-economic development for the Mekong-Lancang Region. The Union Minister expressed his appreciation to the contribution of China to the MLC Special Fund.

Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Myanmar ‌ Mr. Chen Hai also delivered a commemorative speech. It was followed by screening of the Video Clip Presentation featuring activities of Mekong-Lancang Cooperation in Myanmar.

During the dinner, the cultural troupe from the Fine Arts Department of the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture entertained with cultural performances. Mekong-Lancang Cooperation was established on 23rd March 2016 with an aim to cooperate for the regional sustainable inclusive development by the six member countries which are Cambodia, China, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Viet Nam. 

Myanmar and China have been taking responsibilities as the current Co-Chairs of Mekong-Lancang Cooperation.
