Collective Activities : Preparedness for potential disasters associated with El Niño

Sagaing Region Chief Minister U Ko Lay and officials inspected a collective cleanup activities at a Basic Education Middle school (Branch) in Myothit Ward, Monywa, on October 17.

The departmental staff, members of Myanmar police force, fire brigade members, teachers, students and residents joined efforts to clear overgrown vegetation, plastic waste and tree branches to ensure a safe learning environment.

The Chief Minister and party also inspected cleanup activities at Monywa Railway Station. Later, they met with community elders, industrial entrepreneurs, permanent/auxiliary fire brigade members and social organizations at Monywa City Hall.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister expressed appreciation for their contributions to disaster response and stressed unity and coordination in relief and rescue operations. He also called for preparedness for potential disasters associated with El Niño, including extreme heat, drought, storms and unseasonal rainfall.

The Region Government is taking measures to replenish water in dams, reservoirs, lakes and ponds to prevent drinking water shortages. Attendees also reported on their respective activities.
