




The launching ceremony of Myanmar Encyclopedia (new version) Volume (1) (Ka-Koke) was held at the meeting hall of the Department of Printing and Publishing in Yangon on 23rd May.
Jointly published by Sarpay Beikman of the Department of Printing and Publishing of the Ministry of Information and Tun Foundation, with the help of intellectuals, the implementation has started in 2018 including forming of leading committee, editorial team and expert team for relevant subjects.
Editor in Chief (SarpayBeikman), Department of Printing and Publishing, U Toe Kyaw said "Since around 4 years ago, Ministry of Information has tried to reprint this encyclopedia in cooperation with SarpayBeikman and Tun Foundation. Finished in 2021, but we took some time to make corrections for the time beings. We’ve started publishing encyclopedias in 1954. So publishing like 68 years ago, some stuffs need getting improve and change by this times. Now it’s kind of renewing through taking around 4 years with many intellectuals. So today event is aimed at public to get aware of."
Literature and culture expert, Dr. Soe Naing (Professor-retired) said "It’s now being much difference comparing to the first time published edition. Some data and facts do not proper with time and system, also based on cultural trend at the past and present, we do analyze words usages back and republish with all collaboration efforts of intellectuals so as to get more accurate words and to be reliable standard reference encyclopedia."
Through the collaboration efforts, Myanmar Encyclopedia (new version) Volume (1) (Ka-Koke) was successfully able to be distributed to the hands of readers, learners and researchers.
Chariman, Tun Foundation, Thant Zin Tun said "My father always told us that he is making Myanmar Encyclopedia. And he founded the biggest library in Myanmar. At first, it was small as being lack of readers. So, I collected books everywhere in America and sent back to Yangon. Now I wish my father to be here while the work he wants happen. I’ll support for the additional encyclopedias. We’ll continue to publish and my family has a plan to move forward in cooperation with the Ministry for the next volumes."
The successfully published Myanmar Encyclopedia (new version) Volume (1) (Ka-Koke) has about 500 pages covering headwords and a glossary including 500 photos and maps of local and foreign countries and it will be available at SarpayBeikman bookstores from Yangon, Nay Pyi Taw and Mandalay, it’s learnt.
