







To mark the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, a commemorative event was held at the Training School for the Development of Persons with Intellectual Disabilities in Hlaingthaya Township, Yangon Region, on December 3.
The event featured various sports activities, as well as painting and knowledge games. The aim was to ensure that children with disabilities could enjoy inclusive activities and develop a better understanding of teamwork.
Principal, Training School for the Development of Person with Intellectual Disability, Khin Than Nwe said " By participating in sports activities, children with intellectual disabilities can develop their thinking skills and improve communication with their friends. They also learn to understand and manage their emotions as they experience winning and losing. Some children are used to living in isolation, and through these activities, they learn how to work as part of a team."
Children joyfully took part in the various activities throughout the day.
Staff Officer, Hlaingthaya Township Social Welfare Department, Aung Lwin said " We have been organizing the International Day of Persons with Disabilities since 2011, and this year marks the 14th commemoration. The event aims to ensure that persons with disabilities can participate in activities just like anyone else. Organizing sports competitions brings them happiness and helps them feel a sense of belonging in the community."
The theme for the International Day of Persons with Disabilities 2025 is “Fostering disability-inclusive societies for advancing social progress.”
